Who publishes this guide
Cartecay River Guide is an independent visitor and living guide to the Cartecay River in Gilmer County, Georgia. Gold Peach Realty, a North Georgia real estate brokerage, publishes it as a community guide, and the Cartecay River Guide Editorial Team writes and checks every page.
The guide covers tubing, paddling, trout fishing, access, water levels and the towns along the river. A brokerage also cares about where people live, which is why there are pages on owning land on the river and homes nearby. Everything else is written for visitors first.
Who we are not
We don’t rent tubes or boats, guide trips or manage any land. We aren’t affiliated with any outfitter, Gilmer County, the City of Ellijay or Georgia DNR. When we name Cartecay River Experience or the Rich Mountain WMA, it’s because they are the source for a fact, not because they reviewed or endorsed our pages. Several local businesses share the Cartecay name, and this guide isn’t any of them.
How we source and date facts
Every number, date, fee, hour and phone number here comes from a source we read and link to. We prefer primary sources: the USGS, Georgia EPD and DNR, FEMA, the Census Bureau, Gilmer County and the two cities, and each business’s own website. Each fact carries the date we last checked it, and a script compares the quotes we rely on against the saved page text.
When sources disagree, we say so. Gilmer County’s planning page refers to a state “50 foot stream buffer,” while Georgia EPD sets 25 feet for state waters and 50 feet for trout streams. The Cartecay is a designated trout stream, so the 50-foot figure generally holds on this river, and the living page explains why. When we can’t confirm something, we leave it out or label it. The outfitter’s site shows no year on its season, for example, so we don’t promise it will open in 2027. The real estate pages carry no prices, market statistics or rental income figures.
The map, the profile and the flow card
The river map is drawn from OpenStreetMap data. The river’s long profile is measured for this guide from the USGS 3D Elevation Program along the mapped river line. The live flow card reads USGS gage 02379500, Cartecay River near Ellijay, and shows the time of each reading. We never type a current level into a page, because the river changes after every rain. See water levels and safety for what the numbers mean.
How we use AI
AI tools help us draft. People check every fact against its source before it publishes, and the byline on each page belongs to the editorial team that did that check.
Corrections
If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us. Send the page and, if you can, a link to the source. We check it against that source, fix the page and update the checked date. Longer sourced answers live in the journal.
